Trapper Training and Trapline Development Services
Project Timeline
• Start Date: January 12, 2026
• End Date: February 27, 2026
• Duration: 7 weeks
• Work Schedule:
• 3 days/week (2 field days, 1 shop day)
• 10 hours/day
Budget and Compensation
Proposals should include a detailed cost breakdown, considering:
• Hourly labor rate
• Equipment/vehicle charges (snowmobile, truck, fuel)
• Shop and materials use
• Any additional reimbursable costs
Scope of Work
The successful bidder will be responsible for:
- Training:
- Trapping techniques, ethics, humane practices
- Set locations, lure/bait use, equipment maintenance
- Field safety protocols, line checks, pelts handling
- Shop workflow (skinning, fleshing, drying), record-keeping, pelts grading
- Trapline Development:

- Plan and establish a functional trapline for autonomous management by Gesgapegiag.
Note: The interested parties agree to provide the traps, lures, and baits at their own
expense. All pelts/furs obtained during the project remain the property of Gesgapegiag.
Compliance & Requirements
• Ability to communicate in English
• Fur preparation (skinning) shop located within 15 minutes by car from Gesgapegiag
• Adherence to applicable laws, regulations, trapping seasons, and humane
standards
• Required licenses and permits must be maintained
• Respect for Mi’gmaq cultural practices and community protocols

Hiring priority: Given to Gesgapegiag registered band members.

o Desired status: On the Gesgapegiag payroll or Self-employed

o Shop (skinning) ($/week)
